Medicine at the core, aesthetics as the guide — non-surgical solutions tailored for Asian facial features

ID Cosmetic Clinic was founded in 2017 by Dr. Dan Xu, M.D., CCFP, in Markham, Ontario. It is a physician-led medical aesthetic clinic where every treatment begins with a medical assessment and is guided by a deep specialization in Asian facial aesthetics. We do not pursue a one-size-fits-all standard of beauty — every client's treatment plan starts with a 30-minute physician consultation, personally assessed, designed, and performed by Dr. Xu.

Physician-Led Aesthetics ≠ A Typical Med Spa

In North America, the term "medspa" can refer to a wide range of models — from physician-run clinics to nurse-independent practices. At ID Cosmetic Clinic, our model is clear: every treatment is the full responsibility of a licensed physician, from diagnosis through execution.

TYPICAL MED SPA

  • Injections performed independently by nurses or PAs
  • Physician may not be on-site — only "remote supervision" provided
  • Menu-driven sales — you pick a treatment, they perform it
  • No systematic diagnosis: no Fitzpatrick assessment, no skeletal proportion evaluation
  • Cookie-cutter injection technique producing templated, generic results
  • Difficult or impossible to reach the treating physician after complications

ID Cosmetic Clinic

  • All injections personally performed by Dr. Dan Xu, M.D., CCFP
  • Physician present at every stage: diagnosis → treatment plan → execution → follow-up
  • Diagnosis-driven — a 30-minute physician assessment precedes every recommendation
  • Comprehensive evaluation: Fitzpatrick typing + facial skeletal analysis + soft tissue assessment + pigmentation risk profiling
  • Asian-specific injection logic — calibrated to Eastern facial proportion and aesthetic sensibility
  • Any post-treatment concern can be directed to your treating physician directly
"Many clients come to me after being dissatisfied elsewhere — either over-filled into a puffy, unnatural look, or with results that simply don't suit their face. I think the root cause is always the same: no physician took the time to truly look at their face and understand what they wanted." — Dr. Dan Xu, M.D.

Our Multi-Technology Treatment Logic

Skin concerns are rarely caused by a single factor — and our treatment plans never rely on a single technology. A four-step medical framework ensures every plan is both scientifically sound and safe.

STEP 01

Precise Diagnosis

A 30-minute physician consultation including Fitzpatrick skin typing, Wood's lamp pigment depth assessment, and facial skeletal and soft tissue analysis — to identify the root cause of each concern.

STEP 02

Treatment Plan Design

Based on the diagnostic findings, the optimal combination of technologies is selected from our device matrix. For example: pigmentation + redness → PicoSure Pro combined with Vbeam; laxity + volume loss → Thermage FLX combined with filler.

STEP 03

Phased Execution

Complex concerns cannot all be addressed in a single session. We prioritize by clinical importance — addressing high-risk issues (such as active inflammation) first, then progressively advancing aesthetic goals, with a clear objective at each stage.

STEP 04

Ongoing Monitoring

A 48-hour post-treatment check-in, followed by scheduled follow-up assessments. Treatment plans are dynamically adjusted based on your recovery progress — this is continuous medical management, not "treat and release."

Our Aesthetic Philosophy

Four principles that guide the design of every treatment plan.

1

Diagnosis Before Treatment

Every client begins with a 30-minute physician consultation. Dr. Xu personally evaluates facial skeletal structure, soft tissue distribution, skin condition, and pigmentation risk — rather than simply offering a menu and asking what you'd like done.

2

Subtract, Don't Add

The best aesthetic medicine is the kind nobody notices. We aim for results that make people say, "You look so refreshed lately" — not results that announce themselves. When in doubt, we choose the conservative approach over the aggressive one.

3

Respect Eastern Aesthetic Proportions

Asian faces have their own golden ratios — zygomatic arch width, nasal bridge height, and mandibular angle all differ from Western aesthetic norms. We do not apply Western templates to Eastern faces.

4

Honest Communication — We Say No When Warranted

If a treatment is not suitable for your skin type, or if your expectations are unrealistic, we will tell you directly — and we will recommend alternatives. We will never conceal risks or overstate outcomes for the sake of a sale.

"Beauty should help you become a better version of yourself — not change who you fundamentally are. My job is not to make every face look the same. It's to find what's already beautiful in each person's face and make it shine." — Dr. Dan Xu, M.D.

Why We Focus on Asian Facial Aesthetics

Asian faces have distinct skeletal structures, soft tissue distributions, and pigmentation characteristics — differences that directly shape the logic behind every treatment plan.

Skeletal Structure

Asian faces typically feature a broader zygomatic arch, a flatter mid-face, and a more prominent mandibular angle. Applying Western filler logic — heightening the cheekbones and narrowing the jaw — directly to Asian faces can easily disrupt facial harmony. Dr. Xu's injection points, tissue planes, and dosing are all calibrated to Asian skeletal parameters.

Soft Tissue Characteristics

Asian skin tends to have a thicker dermis and a different subcutaneous fat distribution pattern. This means the same filler product will behave differently on an Asian face in terms of support, longevity, and migration risk — requiring adjustments to injection depth, product selection, and volume.

Pigmentation Risk Management

Fitzpatrick III–V skin types have more reactive melanocytes, meaning any inflammation — including laser treatment itself — can trigger post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). This is the central safety concern in laser treatments for Asian skin. Our laser parameters, fluence settings, and treatment intervals are specifically designed to minimize PIH risk.

Aesthetic & Cultural Nuance

Eastern aesthetic sensibility favors a natural, effortless quality over dramatic contour changes. The highest compliment after a treatment is that no one can tell you've had anything done — not the high-contrast, defined look more common in Western aesthetic ideals. With 80,000 Asian facial treatment cases, we have a deep understanding of this distinction.

ID Aesthetic Standard

  • Every treatment plan is personally designed by the physician — not templated by a nurse or technician
  • Comprehensive pre-treatment informed consent — expected outcomes, risk profile, alternatives, and aftercare are all documented in writing
  • Dual verification for all device treatments — laser fluence settings and injectable dosing are confirmed by both the physician and a clinical assistant
  • Full imaging documentation — standardized clinical photographs taken before, during, and after treatment, serving as the basis for outcome evaluation and safety traceability
  • Structured post-treatment follow-up — phased check-ins at 48 hours, 7 days, and 30 days; we don't simply treat and send you home
"The ID Aesthetic Standard is not a tagline. It is our operating manual — every step has a standardized protocol, every parameter has a clinical rationale. This is our commitment to every single client." — Dr. Dan Xu, M.D.

Frequently Asked Questions About Our Clinic

Is ID Cosmetic Clinic a physician's clinic or a med spa?

ID Cosmetic Clinic is a physician-founded, physician-led medical aesthetic clinic. Founder Dr. Dan Xu holds a Canadian Medical Doctorate (M.D.) and CCFP certification in Family Medicine, and is a registered physician with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). All injectable and laser treatment plans are personally assessed, designed, and supervised by the physician — this is not the nurse-independent medspa model.

What should I prepare for my first visit?

For your first appointment, we recommend: ① Coming with a bare face or minimal makeup (to allow for accurate skin assessment); ② Bringing a list of your current skincare products and any medications; ③ If you have had previous aesthetic treatments (injection sites, products used, dates), please share that information; ④ The consultation is complimentary and takes approximately 30 minutes. You are not expected to make any decisions on the day — feel free to take the treatment plan home and consider it at your own pace.

Is the consultation free of charge?

Yes, your initial consultation is complimentary. Dr. Xu will spend approximately 30 minutes conducting a comprehensive assessment — including Fitzpatrick skin typing and facial analysis — and will provide personalized treatment recommendations. A consultation does not obligate you to proceed with any treatment. If no treatment is appropriate at this time, Dr. Xu will tell you directly — there is no pressure to book.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept cash, Debit, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and WeChat Pay. Financing options are available for select treatments — please ask during your consultation for details.

What areas does the clinic serve?

The clinic is located at 30 Gibson Dr., Markham, near the Hwy 404 and Hwy 7 interchange. We serve clients from across the Greater Toronto Area, including Richmond Hill, North York, Scarborough, Vaughan, Aurora, and beyond. Free underground parking is available on-site. Driving time from downtown Toronto is approximately 25–40 minutes.

Is the clinic able to serve patients in languages other than English?

Absolutely. Our team provides full bilingual service in English and Chinese (both Mandarin and Cantonese). From your initial consultation and informed consent process through to post-treatment follow-up, we ensure clear, complete communication in the language you are most comfortable with.

What happens if I am not satisfied with my results?

During the consultation phase, we discuss expected outcomes, realistic variation ranges, and adjustment options in detail before any treatment begins. If you have concerns or questions after your procedure, you can contact your treating physician directly for a follow-up assessment. For reversible treatments such as hyaluronic acid fillers, dissolving and adjusting is possible if needed. For non-reversible treatments, we apply a higher standard of pre-treatment scrutiny and expectation management.

How is ID Cosmetic Clinic different from other aesthetic clinics in Markham and Toronto?

There are three core differences: ① The physician is personally involved at every stage of treatment — this is not a nurse-independent model; ② Most of our clients have Asian skin, meaning our injection techniques, laser parameters, and aesthetic judgment are all calibrated to East Asian facial characteristics; ③ We are diagnosis-driven, not sales-driven — if a treatment is not right for you, we will say so directly, rather than recommend unnecessary procedures for the sake of revenue.
