1. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PICOSURE PRO AND OTHER HYPERPIGMENTATION TREATMENTS THAT GMA OFFERS SUCH AS YELLOWBEAM, CLEAR + BRILLIANT LASER AND THE COSMELAN PEEL SYSTEM?
Although all of these treatments work to improve hyperpigmentation, they target melanin and the skin differently. In many cases, patients can benefit from a combination of these treatments to achieve optimal, long-term results. We call this our comprehensive, integrative approach to hyperpigmentation. At the end of the day, what we use to treat and how we treat a patient’s skin is always personalized based on various factors including the patient’s skin type, skin concerns and the forms of hyperpigmentation that we are dealing with.
2. WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE PROCEDURE?
The medical aesthetician or nurse will first cleanse and numb the treatment site with topical lidocaine for 15 minutes to help minimize discomfort.
The larger treatment areas are divided into quadrants using a white pencil to ensure the laser is distributed precisely, effectively, and efficiently.
During treatment, a slight snapping sound will be heard as the laser passes over the treatment area. Patients may feel some mild discomfort.
To calm the skin following the laser procedure and to expedite recovery, we apply a hydrating silk mask for 10-15 minutes, followed by moisturizer and sunscreen application to end the treatment.
3. WHAT IS THE DOWNTIME FOR PICOSURE PRO?
There is typically minimal to no downtime with PicoSure Pro treatment. Patients may experience temporary redness and swell at the treatment site. The redness typically resolves itself in a couple of hours following the procedure. Unwanted pigment may darken over the next 24 hours before fading away.
4. IS IT PAINFUL?
We apply topical lidocaine prior to treating the skin to ensure patient comfort.
5. HOW MANY TREATMENTS DO I NEED? WHEN WILL I SEE THE RESULTS?
Most patients will need about 3-6 sessions at 4-week intervals to fully address their skin concerns and for the best results. Depending on the severity and forms of hyperpigmentation, more treatments may be required. Patients may begin to notice some improvements in as little as a few weeks after one treatment.
